I am Brian Ferree, the owner and founder of Home Build Consulting. For the past 20 years I have worked in the construction industry and I am a licensed general contractor in the state of North Carolina. My business has primarily been for residential customers in and around the Asheville area. In the time that I’ve been in business, I’ve seen hundreds of jobsites from new builds, to deck repair, from massive renovations to small additions. I’ve worked one-on-one with dozens of clients on just about every type of contracting job in the residential construction world you could imagine. In working with clients it has always been my number 1 priority to make my customers feel safe as they enter a contract with my company and throughout the whole process until the end.

However, some of the stories I’ve heard from fellow contractors and homeowners indicate to me a disconnect between homeowner and contractor. Stories of halted projects, depleted funds, overbudget projects, unpaid contracts, scheduling nightmares and sub par work have come to me over the years. It seems to be a similar cause at the origin of each story: Communication, expectation, and education. Residential construction with a contractor really is a team effort between the homeowner and the professional, but sometimes it feels like the two are on opposing teams.

It is from these stories and my desire to provide expert guidance to homeowners that I founded Home Build Consulting. Our mission is to help homeowners improve their existing home or build their new home with confidence. Not by being their hired contractor, but by sharing our knowledge and experience to help them succeed in hiring a contractor of their own. Working with a residential contractor can be a daunting endeavor and it requires a lot of trust on both sides.
